USNA NCAA APR Comparisons, February 28, 2005

There's been a lot of talk lately about the new Academic Performance Rate (APR).  Monday, the NCAA released the first academic progress rates for its 326 Division I schools, measuring their success in retaining scholarship athletes and keeping them eligible in each sport for all NCAA teams.

183 of the 326 schools (56%) had at least one program deemed substandard by the NCAA. Altogether, 411 of 5,720 Division I programs were flagged. Allowing margin for error, another 787 teams scored below the NCAA-set minimum of 925 but weren't flagged. Schools had an average overall APR of 948.

How do our Navy teams stack up?

The Naval Academy had 10 sports programs ranked first with an APR rank of 1,000, meaning every student-athlete on their respective roster remained at the Naval Academy and was also eligible to compete or graduate.
